Summer Fun

I realize that snow suits are on the store shelves and Christmas trees are at the local Hobby Lobby but around here it's still summer.  As in it's hot, the kids sleep in (sort of) and I don't have much gumption to tackle any major projects.

But just to prove to posterity (and my mom) that we're not completely lazy here ya go, part one of our summer in 7 pictures.

Yogurt really is just as messy as you'd think.

Imagine the dental floss.

Happy birthday to the baby!  Picture of her cake but not of her, what's wrong with that picture??

Houses that we can't afford (thank you student loans) but they're nice to look at!

Swimming with 5 kids is no joke.  It's an achievement man.

I've always wanted to play in a fountain but because I'm a grownup I'm the one telling the kids no while secretly thinking that fountain swimming would be super fun.

Proof that kids really are able to sleep anywhere.  It makes my neck hurt just looking at this picture.

Happy summer!

Let's make it all better!

Last night my doorbell rang.  I was still being antisocial so the husband answered it under strict (but unspoken) orders that if it was for me I wasn't home.  I'm friendly like that.

This is what he found.

Cake.  That's what that is.  And a sweet note.  It reads:

Kristen,
Sorry to hear about your horrible, awful, four letter word day.  You know, cake is a four letter word too!
(unsigned)

Why yes anonymous keeper of my sanity, cake is a four letter word.  Whoever you are I love you, I worship you and I want to be a thoughtful as you when I grow up.

Kristen

Oh and if you're wondering how a 2 1/2 year old gets an almost 30 year old woman banned from the gym, well all he has to do is bite someone.  Yep, that's my kid, the biter.

I feel awesome about my parenting skills right now.  Once again I have proven the theory that as soon as you start to feel confident about your abilities as the guide to the next generation you will be shot down and reminded of your cluelessness.  Yay me.

How long is too long to still have baby weight?

My baby is turning two this week.  Which means we should probably stop calling him "the baby".
As in "someone grab the baby before he dumps out the milk" or "who let the baby in the bathroom, he's in the toothpaste" or "if you don't want the baby to bite you, keep your fingers out of his mouth".  You know, regular stuff like that.
As the youngest of 4, this kid is learning some survival skills.  Things like if you want someone's attention it's best to just get in their face and give them a kiss.  They'll notice you for sure.  You should also be proficient in the use of the word "NO!"  It's useful for those times of stress and overload, like when your mother is making you sit still in church.
I'm making the coolest cake for his birthday.  Right now it's still in the crumb coat stage but it's shaping up to be pretty incredible.  I've been taking pictures, hopefully I can show them to you sometime this millennium.

Happy Monday!

It's almost May, why is it so dang cold?!

Check out those ominous looking clouds.  It looked the same pretty much all weekend.  What this picture doesn't show is the wind.  Oh, the wind.

This is the fort before it was blown away.
Notice how they're all wearing winter coats, yes it was that cold.  It was also starting to rain.

We went to a cool museum on Friday.
If you're ever in the valley you need to go.  So many fun, interactive kid things.

Of course, the biggest attraction ended up being the drinking fountain.
There was a line for this baby.  It had a foot pedal.  Nothing is as enthralling as stomping on something and getting water.

This is my sister in law.  She is one of the coolest people I know.
She's very photogenic too.  And she kills me every time we play the Wii together.  I should dislike her but I don't.

Cake is good.  Cake with chocolate covered cherries, very good.
I think there's still some in the fridge.  Cake is good for breakfast, right?  Right.

Someday I'll tell you about my gift for taking self portraits of me and the husband and chopping his head off.
Have I mentioned before how much I need photography help?

Happy Monday people!
